Independent cultivar-evaluation company Provar and specialist agricultural genetics company CenGen have a history of collaborative research that has benefitted the fruit industry. They recently teamed up again for two new Hortgro-funded projects.
“Sometimes you look at a tree, and it’s very obvious that it’s not on the rootstock that you thought you planted,” says Tristan Dorfling. “For example, it’s supposed to be on one of the most dwarfing rootstocks, but the tree is the same size as a tree on one of the most vigorous rootstocks.”
