The SA Fruit Journal/Vrugte Joernaal is a bilingual, bi-monthly magazine aimed at the fruit industry and published by SA Fruit Journal (Pty)Ltd. The magazine’s main purpose is to give its readers current market news and inform them through in-depth articles.  We publish popular as well as scientific articles about agricultural services and service providers, product news and innovation, agricultural training, Government, international news, market news and exports.

Since the establishment of the Fruit SA Promotion Campaign, a communication tool for a united South African fruit industry was identified. The fresh produce industry went through many changes after deregulation. The industry had to restructure for the advancement of our image to the international fruit market as well as a stable growth of our exports. During this restructuring process a need developed for a body/organisation to co-ordinate the fruit marketing strategy for South Africa.

FRUIT SA was the new baby born in 2000 to fulfill this need and to represent the entire fruit industry of South Africa.  Now the next step was to find a communication tool to publish the outputs of the different fruit sectors, but it had to be a united document. So another new addition to the family came in the form of the SA FRUIT JOURNAL/VRUGTE JOERNAAL in June 2002. The magazine consists of dedicated sections for the different fruit sectors as well as market, industry and research news.  Regular features on specific topics such as logistics, packaging, and education are covered.

The magazine is published by the South African Fruit Journal (Pty) Ltd and the control is in hand. Shareholders in the magazine are the SA Apple and Pear Producers’ Association (SAAPPA), SA Stone Fruit Producers’ Association (SASPA), the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa (CGA), South Africa Table Grapes (SAT) and the Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum (FPEF).   We are guaranteed our readership, as all the members of these bodies have magazines delivered to their doorstep.
